The vibrant colors of the living room felt aggressively bright to Arthur. The news from his son, Ethan, hung in the air like a discordant note. "I'm becoming a Rastafarian, Dad," Ethan had said, beaming. Arthur found himself unable to return the smile.

He slowly lowered himself onto the sofa, the cushions failing to offer any comfort. He had just finished a grueling day at work, his back aching and his mind still buzzing with the day’s problems.
